Tribal Faces of the Kayaw, Kayah and Kayan
Kayah State is the smallest State in the Union of Myanmar. It is rich in ethnic diversity and the homeland of different indigenous Karen groups, such as the Kayaw, the Kayah and the Kayan (aka Padaung).
Many of these “tribal” communities live in rural areas, often in remote locations, where they were able to preserve their culture and traditions throughout the centuries.
It is only in recent years that road access, mobile phones, Facebook and electricity are available. Their traditional lifestyle is transforming at an accelerated speed.
I made it a project to portrait the last “tribal” women of these communities.
